Principal’s Message for the week of May 25th
As we celebrate the opening of our summer season this weekend, we remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms on this Memorial Day. We pray for them on this day and reflect on their self less acts of courage.
We are entering the last few weeks of the Third Trimester. It is hard to believe that June is so quickly approaching. There will be grade level meetings to discuss the end of the year procedures, beginning with Grade 8 students and parents this Tuesday, May 26th. I will also share the results of the technology/distance learning survey with the parents.
This trimester was certainly different and new. The teachers and I have met and we are now planning for summer activities to replace the traditional summer reading list. The Board of Directors has also approved online summer school courses for students requiring summer classes for their academic performance throughout the whole school year. Parents may also wish for their children to participate even if it is not required. There will be no face to face classes in the school and no summer program offered on site. We are following the governor’s requirements concerning gatherings and school programs.
Presently the teachers and I have also been meeting with individual parents and students with academic concerns. If you need to speak with the teacher please make an appointment as soon as possible-do not wait until the closing of the school year. We have had successful ZOOM conferences to keep parents updated on their child’s progress. We must keep the communication open and updated with all parents.
We are also very concerned with the social and emotional well being of all students, not having the interaction they need with their classmates. For part of June we will be scheduling more interactive social activities during class time to help address this need.
At a recent faculty meeting this week, the teachers once again acknowledged the cooperation and support of the parents during this last trimester. I join them in expressing my gratitude and I definitely acknowledge the time you have given to your children’s education from home.
If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you and have a good week.
